No, the LifePad® is self-explanatory and was designed in such a way that no third-party instruction is necessary. The use of the LifePad® is very intuitive, so that non-professionals are able to perform a cardiac massage with it without any training. Instructions with pictograms are printed on the LifePad®, which show the individual steps of the resuscitation measures.
Pull out the yellow battery strip on the front of the device. The device switches on automatically, the signal tone that sets the rhythm sounds immediately and the first LED lights up. You can now begin chest compressions.
The device can be switched off again with the button.
After removing the battery strip, the battery life (see best-before date on the packaging/device) can no longer be guaranteed.
The LEDs indicate whether enough pressure is being applied. The compression must be done with so much pressure that all LEDs light up from orange to green. If not enough pressure is applied, only the orange or yellow LED will light up, for example.
The LEDs also help with the assessment of the relief. After each compression, the chest must be relieved to such an extent that the LEDs go out one after the other in descending order from green to orange until only the orange LED is lit.
The signal tone sets the rhythm of the cardiac massage. With each beep, compression must occur, ie. pressure to be exerted. Relief occurs in the pauses between the tones.
The device can be used by people aged 12 and over.
No, the LifePad® can only be used by people aged 12 and over. The reason for this is that in younger people in different pressure is necessary.
The LifePad® should be positioned on the victim’s torso so that the vertical red line is in the middle of the body and the bottom edge of the product is level with the sternum/breastbone so that the pressure sensor is in the lower half of the sternum.
The LifePad® does not give any advice on ventilation. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is not mandatory for laypersons unless they are trained or feel able to do so.
The German Heart Foundation, for example, expressly recommends that laypersons do not perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
The product cannot be used on different people for hygiene reasons, as it cannot be disinfected or cleaned. After a single use and the associated closing of the circuit by pulling the battery strip, the supplied battery discharges so that it can no longer be guaranteed that the product can be used again at a later date.
Observe the storage conditions on the packaging and in the instructions for use. Outside of the specified values, we cannot guarantee the material and battery life.
We recommend keeping a sealed product with the battery strip inserted, otherwise we cannot guarantee its lifespan.
No, the LifePad® does not replace the defibrillator. Rather, the LifePad® is an addition to it.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is an important adjunct device during cardiac arrest. It is used in lay resuscitation if at least two helpers are on site and someone knows where an AED is installed in the immediate vicinity. This allows one person to perform chest compressions while the other retrieves the AED. After turning on the AED, all you have to do is follow the prompts from the voice computer.
Important: The chest massage should only be interrupted if the voice computer prompts you to do so. Otherwise, the cardiac massage should be carried out continuously.
The device can be used in combination with a defibrillator. Follow the defibrillator safety instructions.
The LifePad® has an appropriate certification for use in combination with a defibrillator. The LifePad® can also remain on the victim’s torso during the defibrillator’s shock sequence.
When the unit is on, short press the button once and the beeper WILL be turned off. To turn the sound on, press the button again.
No, as long as the battery strip is inserted we can give a 5 year guarantee (see best before date on the device/packaging). Once the battery strip is pulled, the duration depends on usage. We recommend keeping an unused device and checking the expiry date regularly.
In the event of a circulatory arrest (unconsciousness and lack of breathing), chest compressions should be started immediately, as this is the person’s only chance of survival. The emergency call should be made beforehand, but resuscitation must be started, even if rescue personnel or the emergency doctor are not yet on site.
In a cardiac arrest, the vital organs are no longer supplied with oxygen. The primary goal of chest compressions is to deliver oxygen to the brain as quickly as possible. By regularly pressing on the chest, a minimal circulation is maintained in the affected person and long-term damage can be prevented.
The LifePad® can be taken anywhere (on vacation, in the car, during the day, in the first-aid kit)
Important: You should consider not to leave the LifePad® in the trunk of a car that is exposed to extreme heat or cold at all times, in order not to damage the battery.
